My Goal: I simply wish to backup some of the NAS file shares + iSCSI to the external USB, and do so on a scheduled basis, in the environment I have using the default QNAP tools (versus any extra vendor software). I searched help for "backup to USB" and did not find any relatable articles. ![]() I setup the NAS to do monthly backups to the external HDD drive. If I go to Control Panel -> Backup/Restore, there is no option to backup or restore any files. Im using a NAS with RAID 1 plus I installed a USB HDD docking station to it. You'd need to have different backup jobs for each set of different backup disk set so you'd need to have backup disks that are at least the size of the shared folder (s) in. If I go into Snapshot Backup - Snapshot Replica, it only allows me to make a snapshot to another NAS or itself as a NAS, however, it will not allow me to select a USB device. You can have multiple external disks connected and as far as I know (I haven't tried it fully though) you can use the disk labels to identify different backup destinations. It talks about targeting a local folder but doesnt specify how to make the USB drive appear as a local folder. I'm using the device with all the default apps and OS updates, with no Internet connection, and have an external USB drive connected and confirmed working. Those steps dont specifically reference using an External USB drive as the backup destination. ![]() When Googling, I see reference to things that don't exist. I have a QNAP TS-832X and nowhere can I see where to backup to an external USB. Add directory: Backs up data to a new directory in the destination folder.
